Steps 1 and 2 can be completed remotely, anytime, anywhere. The enrollment survey and all learning materials are web based and accessible 24/7 from any location.

However, Step 3 must be completed in person. Exams are proctored in-person at our Administrative Center and Library. We are not able to proctor an exam virtually.

Yes, being certified in Excel 2016 and/or Word 2016 is not required to take the expert level exams. However, it is highly recommended to complete the base level exam before enrolling in the expert levels.

No, everything is web based so you only need a browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.) and an internet connection. Please note Internet Explorer is not compatible with our website or the GMetrix practice tests. All operating systems (Windows 8, Windows 10, Mac OS, etc.) should be compatible.

You do not need the Microsoft Office Suite to enroll for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exams.

If you do not have a computer or internet access at home, computers and WiFi are available at all Pierce County Library locations.

No, you only need to enroll for the products you wish to certify in. Every product has its own certification exam, and you earn a certification for each exam you pass.

For example, if you enroll for MOS Excel 2016 and pass the MOS Excel 2016 exam you are then certified in MOS Excel 2016.

Nothing, it’s free! Enrolling in the program, accessing the learning materials, and taking the exam are free of charge with Pierce County Library. Exams range in value from $150-200.  When you complete Step 2 and earn a voucher, each voucher allows for 3 attempts at the certification exam, a $450-600 value!

Step 1 takes approximately 20 minutes. Step 2 varies from person to person, some people can work through the material quickly while others take their time studying and preparing for the exam. In Step 3 you have 50 minutes to complete an exam.

No! You can enroll for as many products as you would like. However, we strongly recommend enrolling in one-at-a-time due to the amount of preparation involved.

No, the resources listed in your learning plan do not expire. You can take as much or as little time as necessary to learn the material.

Library staff are not able to assist you with GMetrix, or answer questions while you are taking a test.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, exam vouchers issued by Pierce County Library are only redeemable at Pierce County Library. Other libraries and testing centers have different programs and different requirements. You can learn more about other programs here.

No, testing sessions last for one hour allowing for only one exam.

Yes. A valid exam voucher is required to take a Certification Exam with Pierce County Library.

Yes, exam vouchers expire 60 days after the date they were issued.

Each exam voucher allows for three attempts at the certification exam. So if you do not pass the first time, you can try again.

Please register for your certification exam through our online calendar. Registration is required, and you must have a valid Pierce County Library issued exam voucher at the time of your exam.

Once you’ve earned your certification there are several ways you can show it off. You will be issued a digital badge from Acclaim, which you can add to your LinkedIn profile and/or email signature.

You can also view your exam results, print your transcript, or order an official certificate by logging in to your Certiport account.
