STEP 1. ENROLL

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I participate remotely?

Steps 1 and 2 can be completed remotely, anytime, anywhere. The enrollment survey and all learning materials are web based and accessible 24/7 from any location.

However, Step 3 must be completed in person. Exams are proctored in-person at our Administrative Center and Library. We are not able to proctor an exam virtually.

Can I start with the MOS expert level exams?

Yes, being certified in Excel 2016 and/or Word 2016 is not required to take the expert level exams. However, it is highly recommended to complete the base level exam before enrolling in the expert levels.

Do I need the software to participate?

No, everything is web based so you only need a browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.) and an internet connection. Please note Internet Explorer is not compatible with our website or the GMetrix practice tests. All operating systems (Windows 8, Windows 10, Mac OS, etc.) should be compatible.

You do not need the Adobe Creative Suite to enroll for the Adobe Certified Associate Exams.

You do not need the Microsoft Office Suite to enroll for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exams.

You do not need the QuickBooks software to enroll for the QuickBooks Certified User exams.

If you do not have a computer or internet access at home, computers and WiFi are available at all Pierce County Library locations.

Do I need to enroll for every product to earn my certification?

No, you only need to enroll for the products you wish to certify in. Every product has it’s own certification exam, and you earn a certification for each exam you pass.

For example, if you enroll for MOS Excel 2016 and pass the MOS Excel 2016 exam you are then certified in MOS Excel 2016.

How much does the program cost?

Nothing, it’s free! Enrolling in the program, accessing the learning materials, and taking the exam are free of charge with Pierce County Library. Exams range in value from $150-200.  When you complete Step 2 and earn a voucher, each voucher allows for 3 attempts at the certification exam, a $450-600 value!

How much time does it take?

Step 1 takes approximately 20 minutes. Step 2 varies from person to person, some people can work through the material quickly while others take their time studying and preparing for the exam. In Step 3 you have 50 minutes to complete an exam.

Is there a limit to the number of times I can enroll?

No! We offer 28 different certifications and you can enroll for as many products as you would like. However, we strongly recommend enrolling in one-at-a-time due to the amount of preparation involved.

Who can enroll?

Anyone with a Pierce County Library card and email address can enroll. Need a Pierce County Library card? You can apply online. Need an email address? You can Book a Librarian for assistance setting up an account.
